WANTED WIFE, WOMAN TO WORK BESIDE ME ON RANCH IN MONTANA. Aries read the ad Ben McCabe had placed in the paper and prayed the position hadn't been filled. She knew nothing about cooking, ranching, or being a wife for that matter. Aries had been trained by one of Philadelphia's best physicians, her father. Trained, but not board certified; trained but not allowed to practice. She longed to be a practicing physician, but no one wanted a woman doctor. Her father's death, which left her with nothing but gambling debts and a young brother to provide and care for, forced her to put aside her love of medicine. Answering this ad was the only way Aries could think of to provide for herself and her brother. She felt badly about deceiving Ben, but what she didn't know was that Ben had deceived her from the moment she'd read the ad and been sent the money to travel to Montana. There was no turning back. Aries knew that as she heard the clickety-clack of the train taking her closer to a man she knew nothing about and who wanted no part of a woman in his life -- and certainly not a wife.

I really wanted to like this book; it had a premise that seemed interesting and I enjoyed her being a doctor. However, it was very predictable and quite sappy, both of which could have been forgiven had the ending been better. I literally frowned and said to myself "that's it??" when I got to the last page. Granted, I'm reading on a kindle so though I knew I was near the end I was expecting some sort of closure on the other characters and something more then 'and then he opened his heart to the girl under the stars.' Left me feeling quite unfulfilled.

Montana Star edition by DeAnn Smallwood Romance eBooks Reviews

This is a very sweet story. It's nice to read about a strong, independent female lead character who maintains her sense of self throughout despite coming up against equally strong personalities and very challenging life circumstances. It ended rather abruptly, however. After so much build up to the final outcome on the last few pages, it would have been nice to have more of that story played out for another chapter or so.
Ah, yes, "Montana Sky" is my kind of romance novel. It's a nice story about a young woman trying

to find her way in the world after her family has died. She travels to Montana after answering an ad

from a man wanting a wife. Of course, there are some problems, some issues, but the story is about

the interaction of family and friends and community. It's not what I consider "soft porno". This is a

good clean story about family and community ...and romance.

"Montana Sky" is a fun story that's pure enjoyment. I've read Smallwood's novel "Sapphire" and

enjoyed it, too.

I would have given it a 5-star rating, but I tend to be a little stingy with the stars these days.

I enjoyed reading Montana Star. The story moved along well and the characters were likable.
The plot was somewhat predictable because it was a very familiar format. The characters reminded me of of Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman.
That being said Smallwood wrote a tight story balanced out with lovely descriptive passages that really did make the Montana setting an integral piece of the story.
It was a great story, great detail and character development but the ending just abruptly stopped. As if there was a deadline to meet and they couldn't finish the story correctly.
I've not read anything by her before, so I was pleased to discover that DeAnn Smallwood can write a GREAT book! I have had a little spate there of books that just weren't well written, but the last couple I've read have been so good, and this *Montana Star* is right at the top of the list. I've read 'mail order bride' books before, but I loved the character development in this one. The h, Aries, is a 24 year old, trained doctor who is mother to her 4 year old little brother. She finds herself in a heap of financial hurt from the debts of her physician father. Looking for a way to provide for herself and her little brother, she answers an ad for a mail order bride in Montana. She's a strong woman - smart, compassionate, kind, and determined; she's a perfect role model for anyone to read about. The romance was very sweet. There are a couple of "farm swears," and some of the doctoring she does probably would tip this to a PG book. I think it's totally appropriate for middle school and above. I just loved it!
A woman determine to be a Dr. Finding out her father gambles aways everything Saint not wanting off we s a home,a want ad for a wife she take a huge chance answers the ad. Moves and makes the best everything and c.f. one clean about lying and not saying a thing about her brother. Time conquer all and they fall in love. And sharing a practice with the Dr. And yes humble and admits he's wrong and call her Dr. Add he did it faced everything and grew
This the 2nd book of Deann Smallwood that I've read. I enjoyed both of the books a lot. The only negative for me was that it took a couple of chapters for me to get interested in the story. I read Montana Man first and almost quit after reading it, because it was so slow. I'm glad that I didn't give up because after about ch. 2 or 3, it really got interesting! In fact, I had a hard time putting it down. Because of that I decided to buy Montana Star. Again, the beginning was very slow (for me at least), but it did get a lot better. I preferred Montana Man, because I love stories about women doctors in the 1800's. The characters in both books became really were developed well, I thought---just took a while to get there. Overall, I'd say get these books, hang in there and I believe you will enjoy the story once it gets going! lol Also, this was a clean romance which I personally love!
